John Townsend, Q.C.

John focuses on corporate and commercial dispute resolution, including mediation, arbitration and litigation.

As a senior litigator, John provides counsel as well as mediation and arbitration services on corporate and commercial disputes and shareholder disputes as well as conflict and appellate work in a wide variety of areas.

John’s breadth of experience has resulted in being well known as a seasoned litigator, an advisor to professional regulators on matters of governance and discipline, and for his steady hand in providing strategic advice to corporations, including the operator of a public highway.

He has been recognized for many years as a leading lawyer in Corporate Commercial Litigation in the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory and Best Lawyers in Canada.

John is a qualified mediator and recently completed the ICD-Rotman Directors Education Program. He is available to conduct mediations and arbitrations in corporate, commercial and insurance matters.

In 2016, John received the Franklin O. Leger QC Award, which is the Law Society of New Brunswick’s most prestigious honour recognizing outstanding meritorious service, dedication, or contribution in accordance with the highest ideals of the legal profession.

Currently, John is Treasurer and Audit Chair of the Professional Liability Reserve Fund, which insures New Brunswick lawyers. He serves as the Course Leader of the Advocacy Section of the Law Society’s Bar Admission Course, a role he has held since 1994.

John is a proud alumnus of St. Thomas University and the University of New Brunswick Law School, and received his Queen’s Counsel designation in 1999.

He is counsel in the Fredericton office of Pink Larkin.
