Pink Larkin is committed to assisting First Nations communities in Canada build strong and healthy communities that are self-determined and self-governing. Our approach to providing legal services to First Nations communities is collaborative, acknowledging the distinct circumstances and histories of each community while addressing their specific needs.

Our lawyers practicing aboriginal law work with First Nations, Chiefs and Band Councils, Indigenous nonprofit organizations, businesses, and individuals. We assist in establishing governance and management structures that oversee a community from day-to-day business through to planning for long-term prosperity. Our team has a thorough understanding of the unique business and internal and external political issues Bands face; this understanding helps us advice indigenous First Nations clients on economic development frameworks, custom election codes, and independent decision-making and dispute-resolution structures.

We have experience drafting by-laws, policies and procedures related to land management, resource utilization, cultural preservation, community governance, and economic development. We work closely with our clients to ensure that these regulations align with Indigenous legal traditions while remaining compatible with broader legal frameworks and Aboriginal law in Canada.

Our firm has represented First Nations in a variety of governance-related disputes, spanning from employment and human rights grievances to issues concerning natural resources and forensic investigations. In instances of conflict, we provide alternative dispute resolution strategies, such as arbitration and mediation, to resolve disputes effectively. In cases where a conflict cannot reach a resolution, we have represented our First Nations clients in litigation at all levels of court and before commissions and tribunals.

Pink Larkin’s aboriginal law team is dedicated to aligning ourselves closely with our clients, adhering to the principles and objectives set forth by each community. We are committed to investing the necessary time and effort into crafting legal strategies that are tailored to the specific needs and aspirations of each community.
