Chris Robinson

Overview

With over forty years of experience, Chris is a seasoned lawyer with a preeminent practice in civil litigation. He routinely provides clients with legal support in construction, complex commercial and insurance disputes, professional malpractice and product liability claims. Leveraging his extensive experience in dispute litigation, Chris also acts for clients in public law and administrative matters, including taxation and judicial review.

Over his career, Chris has appeared at all levels of court in Nova Scotia, the Supreme Court of Canada, and in other jurisdictions throughout Canada. He has many years of experience in all forms of alternative dispute resolution, including mediation and arbitration in complex domestic and international commercial disputes. In addition to his litigation work, Chris frequently leads the negotiation and drafting of procurement and construction agreements for significant P3, public transportation and infrastructure projects throughout Canada.

Recognized by the legal community for his expertise, Chris was named the 2020 Lawyer of the Year in Construction Law in Halifax by The Best Lawyers™ in Canada, where he has been recognized since 2006 for his work in construction law, corporate and commercial litigation, insurance law, legal malpractice, and personal injury litigation. Chris is also listed as a leading practitioner in the Lexpert® Canadian Legal Directory and as a Provincial Litigation Star in commercial, product liability, and professional liability litigation in Benchmark® Canada.

Committed to sharing his professional knowledge and experience with the legal community, Chris has lectured in Civil Procedure at Dalhousie University’s Schulich School of Law for several years. He is also a regular presenter in professional liability loss control programmes and seminars for lawyers and participants in the construction industry and has authored many articles on legal issues pertaining to construction.

In 2004, Chris was inducted as a fellow of the Canadian College of Construction Lawyers and has served as a Governor of the College for two terms. Chris is also a member of the Construction and Infrastructure Law Section of the Canadian Bar Association, past chair of the CBA’s national Civil Litigation Section and past co-chair of the CBA Law of the Future Committee. He is also a past member of the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal Liaison Committee of the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society, the Courthouse Standards Committee and the Halifax Courthouse Commission.

In addition to his busy professional life, Chris is actively involved in many community activities, currently serving as a board member and Vice Chair of Alpine Canada Alpin. In addition, Chris has been a volunteer ski racing coach for many years, an Alpine Ski Nova Scotia board member, a chair of the Canadian Ski Coaches Federation, and, most recently, a ski instructor in several masters ski programmes.
