Lawyers from Pink Larkin presented on pension and labour issues at Lancaster’s Halifax Labour Law Conference on November 15 and 16, 2011.
The annual conference was co-chaired by Gordon Forsyth, who also acted as moderator for a number of the panels.
Ron Pink spoke as part of a panel discussing the topic “Pension Plan Issues: Seeking solutions to the pension plan sustainability crisis and dealing with day-to-day problems.” The panelists, who also included arbitrator E. Thomas Christie and employer counsel Peter McLellan, discussed how demographic considerations affect the sustainability of pension plans, problems resulting from employer insolvencies, strategies to make up funding shortfalls, and ideas for pension reform.
David Wallbridge presented on the social media panel, entitled “Social Networking and Privacy Concerns: Challenging scenarios in the wired workplace.” This is an evolving area that is of continuing interest to unions, employees and employers. The panel’s interactive discussion considered various factual scenarios to illustrate the implications of increasing social media use at the workplace.
A number of other Pink Larkin lawyers attended the conference, taking advantage of the opportunity to visit with clients and colleagues.
